My Third Year Sending Holiday Cards— Week 39

Since 2019, I have been sending and handing out holiday cards to friends, family and coworkers. And this will be my third year. Over the course of a couple years, my list of people to mail it out has been slowly growing. So why did I start this and what is my process?

In August 2019, my husband and I adopted our first cat, Mochi. She’s a very pretty gray tabby and I love taking pictures of her. It got to the point where I took so many pictures of her that I started an Instagram account for her which reached 400 followers at the point of writing this post.

During the holidays in 2019, we inherited a fake Christmas tree. Of course, Mochi decided that the tree was hers to climb and we’ll occasionally find her relaxing in there. I decided to take a picture of her with my DSLR camera and thought that it turned out really nice. I figured it would make a really good Christmas card that I can hand out to my coworkers, send to my family and close friends back in California. So I ordered the cards and mailed and handed them out. And they were a hit! Everyone thought Mochi looked so cute and funny in the picture.

I kept track of all the people I sent the card to as well as their address. That way, if nothing changed, I already have their address all in one place.

Well in 2020, I was already terminated from my job so I didn’t see any of my coworkers. I decided to reach out to the ones I was close to so that I can send them cards. I also posted on my Facebook that if anyone else wanted cards to send me their address or message me if their address changed. My list actually grew last year. I guess with the pandemic, people wanted a little more connection and if that meant getting it from a holiday card, at least I was able to provide.

For the picture, I had placed a wreath against the couch. Mochi started exploring the wreath and I got a good picture of her head poking through the middle. That was the one I was going to use. So I ordered my cards again and sent them out. I even had to mail out the ones for my husband’s families since we couldn’t see them in person due to the pandemic.

This year, I already sent out my reminder to friends and family let me know if their addresses changed. I haven’t taken the picture yet since I need to figure out how to get both Mochi and Mango in the shot. I’m also considering getting them Santa hats but we’ll see. I also have a list of people to hand out cards now since I’m working at a new place, so now the list has grown even more.

Anyways, I’m really excited for the holidays this year. Hopefully, we can see more family again. But that is it for me. I’ll see you all next week!
