We adopted Mango on May 1, 2021 and as I’m writing this, it’s been a little over two weeks since we got him. A couple weeks ago, I wrote a Medium blog about the first few days of introducing Mango to Mochi. If you want to read more about it, you can check it out here: https://sheegee.medium.com/we-adopted-a-kitten-week-18-25cf2627c86b

But it’s been two weeks since we formally introduced them and I wanted to give a quick update on how their socializing process has been going.

When it comes to playing, Mango and Mochi likes to chase each other around the house. Sometimes, Mochi will change Mango and on the way back, Mango will chase Mochi. They’ll wrestle a bit and I like to keep an eye when they do, mostly because Mochi is three times as big and I get worried if she rough houses too hard for him. There are times when I hear Mango meowing while they wrestle, but after Mochi lets go of him, he jumps back into wrestling her. There are times when Mango would want to keep wrestling and Mochi doesn’t want to play anymore. We usually have to separate them and Mochi will find a quiet place in the house so she can relax a little bit. After awhile, he’ll realize to leave her alone.

Mango and Mochi don’t mind being in the same room together. They don’t curl up together but they’ll sleep in the same room so it’s safe to say they don’t feel like one is taking over the other’s territory. There was one time, they both slept on the rocking chair but no cuddling. I hope that one day they will curl up together and sleep. That is the dream!

Food doesn’t seem to be an issue. Right now, Mochi and Mango eat kitten food because Mango kept eating Mochi’s adult cat food. We did learn that it’s ok for Mochi to eat kitten food. But she doesn’t snarl or hiss at him when he eats from his bowl and sometimes, she’ll eat from his bowl. They share water bowls too. The only thing we really watch is when they get treats. Mochi has a tendency to not finish her treats and Mango will start eating her treats. We have discipline him when he eats her treats since she doesn’t bop him on the head when he does.

I haven’t heard Mochi hissing at him in a few weeks now so I think that’s a good sign. Her behavior hasn’t really changed. The only time it does is when she wants to sleep but he wants to play and so she’ll find another room to relax in. I think they need they still need a little more time so that for them to bond

Anyways, that’s it for me! If you want to see pictures of Mango and Mochi, please follow their Instagram page and I’ll see you next week!
