Over the three day Memorial Day Weekend, I traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles and then from Orange County to Las Vegas and back. At the time of writing this, I’m still in Orange County with my family and will fly back to Chicago next Sunday. But this week was full of traveling!
On Saturday, I flew out from O’Hare International Airport. To get there, I took the Blue Line from downtown Chicago straight into the airport. The ride wasn’t too bad. When I first got on, there were a few people but not super crowded like it normally gets. I got the airport and through security pretty easily and spent my time at the airport just talking on the phone to my husband and my mom before boarding.
The flight wasn’t too bad. I used miles to upgrade my seats with more leg room. The only downside of that seat was that there was no entertainment screen but I had stuff with me. Half the flight, I played Hades on my computer and napped. Also, the guy next to me didn’t have headphones so he played movies loud on my phone so that was annoying. Overall, the flight went by fine.
After a little over 4 hours, I landed in LAX and saw my family! Right after getting out of the airport, we went to a Filipino restaurant. I personally never been to it before but my family has. The food was pretty good (but I also hadn’t eaten at all that day), and they had a live performance from a cover band which was really fun! After leaving the restaurant, we finally got home and rest up before our long drive the next day.
I was woken up around 5AM to get ready for our drive out to Las Vegas. We got ready pretty quickly and made our way out. The drive wasn’t too bad. There wasn’t any traffic and we got there around 10AM.
Our room wasn’t ready so we left our luggage with the hotel we were staying at which was New York New York and walked to the Bellagio. Originally we had planned to go to the buffet there but it was closed. We walked back to New York New York and we were finally able to get our room. We ended up eating at Shake Shack instead. My parents had never been to one and they really liked it! After lunch, I went back up to the room, showered and relaxed for a bit. My parents and brother stayed at the casino and arcade before coming up to the room. We ended up relaxing the rest of the afternoon until the sun went down.
Once it was down, we went out on the strip to walked to the Venetian because we’ve never been there before and seen the river. It was a long walk but it was fun to see the nightlife. We only ended up eating at a food court because we didn’t really like a lot of the restaurants or the ones we did like were closed. The walk back kind of sucked as I was really tired and my feet was hurting very badly. We stopped by the Bellagio again to watch the fountain water show before continuing back. There was a certain point on our walk back where it got really crowded. I’m surprised the amount of people was allowed but honestly, if we got the corona, I wouldn’t be surprised.
We got back to the room and relaxed for a bit. My parents went down a few minutes later to gamble at the casino and I just stayed in the room. Honestly, I was too tired to do anything at Vegas but still had a good time with family.
Our drive back wasn’t as good as we hit traffic at the border and the mountain pass but once we were through the mountain, it was a smooth drive. It probably took us around 6 hours instead of the usual 4 hours.
