I Finally Got a Job— Week 34

Yes, you read the title correctly. I finally landed a job after over a year.

So back in April 2020, I was furloughed along with practically majority of my colleagues. We thought we were going to back after a few months or so. We were so hopeful, but I guess so were majority of people. We thought we’d be back in May. Well, April passed and May came and went. And in June, I received a call that everyone who was furloughed was going to be terminated. At first, I couldn’t believe it. Then panic set in hard and I started crying. I had worked so hard to get to where I was only for it to be taken away so easily. I couldn’t blame them either. I worked in the events industry and it was one of the hardest industries to get hit.

I was still hopeful to return to my old job. They weren’t obligated to but I knew I had a higher chance of being hired back compared to a newer person. I already knew the ins and outs of the job and didn’t require much training. So I decided to wait for them to bring me back. I was receiving unemployment so I had some time.

I was starting to get complacent being at home and I knew I had to get a job soon. Starting in late December 2020, I started applying to jobs. I was a little selective with what I was applying to and I got a few interviews here and there. I even got second interviews but no offers. I definitely felt down. I applied to a few places over the course of a few months but nothing. I kept in touch with my old job to get updates on if we were coming up. I even heard some of my old colleagues were brought back so I was hopeful with that.

But then July came around. I had two months to find a job or get my old job back before unemployment money ran out. I started filling out more and more applications. Throughout the month of July, I made sure that every day, I completed three applications. Application after application, rejections after rejections, I trudged on.

Finally in late July 2021, I received an email for an interview. A few days later, that same place, emailed me back again for a second interview. And another few days later…I received an offer! I was so excited and of course accepted the offer.

Now the new job is not in the same industry as I was in, but it’s within the same umbrella of tourism. I’ve been working here for a short bit now but I’ve loved learning all the new things and expanding my knowledge. I hope to grow within this company and this industry.

Anyways that’s all for me this week. I hope you all enjoyed t he read and I’ll see you all next week!
